U.S. Senator Justin Smith Morrill (1810-1898) is best remembered for his authorship of the Morrill Land-Grant Colleges Act, which paved the way for the chartering of the University of Illinois in 1867. As such, Senator Morrill is regarded as one of the "Founding Fathers" of our University, along with Jonathan Baldwin Turner and President Abraham Lincoln, who signed the Morrill Act in 1862.
