How to Integrate Study Abroad - by Field of Study

Studying abroad is a tremendous opportunity open to all students in the College of ACES. Semester or academic year experiences abroad are particularly valuable, but may take some adjustment to the typical eight semester plan for a given field of study. The best timing for study abroad will depend on an individual’s plan of study and the type of courses offered at the host institution. Therefore each student should develop an individual plan of study, working closely with his or her academic advisor and the assistant dean for study abroad, Dean Bohn.

You will have maximum flexibility in selecting your study abroad destination if you plan to take courses abroad that will fulfill open elective or general education requirements. However, several campus or college partner universities abroad do offer courses that are similar enough to the ones offered on campus that they may be used to fulfill specific course requirements in your concentration.
