In ACES, we encourage our students to have off-campus internship experiences as part of their education, career preparation, and personal enrichment. Getting an internship position is not as easy as signing up for summer courses, though! Finding a good placement with a company or organization can be quite a challenge and will require much initiative on your part. ACES supports you in your endeavor by providing you with information on how to go about finding an internship position and giving you the option of earning credit for the learning experience, provided you follow departmental guidelines pertaining to off-campus internships and have the internship approved for credit before leaving campus.

Credits
You can earn internship credit in your departmental 293 rubric (off-campus internship) or in ACES 293 (international internship). The amount depends on how long and intensive the internship is. The maximum for a summer is 3 credits, for a semester 5 credits. Your off-campus internship must be approved prior to beginning the internship. Many departments have detailed guidelines on off-campus internships. You should familiarize yourself with these.
Costs
Unless you are taking courses along with your internship, you may choose to register in ACES 293 (or departmental 293 rubric) in the term you're back on campus. Thus you can save on Range IV tuition and general fees. But you have to pay SAO fees ($ 105-115), CISI emergency medical and repatriation insurance ($72-126). In some cases you may get paid for the internship, or receive free room and board, but you may also have to pay for that along with personal expenses.
Scholarships
ACES undergraduate students are eligible for the study abroad scholarship ($500 for a summer, $1000 for a semester). You may want to apply for scholarships through professional organizations, clubs, etc.
