Instructions for Online Scholarship Application

Please read the instructions completely before starting the online application process. Answers to common questions will be found here. Please review these instructions before contacting the office by email or phone.

  1. You will need to login using your BLUESTEM ID and PASSWORD. This is the same as your net id and password.
  2. You will need to fill out all fields in the form unless it is specified. You will not be allowed to submit the application until all of these fields are filled. This will include even a minimal response for each of the essay questions. If you are unsure which fields you are required to fill out, you will be prompted before you can submit.
  3. There is a ONE HOUR time limit for filling out the online application. After you fill out the non-essay fields, you may submit the form and return to finish the essay questions at a later time. You will be allowed to come back and edit until June 1, 2007.
  4. You should have your essays composed and completed in a word processing program before cutting and pasting into our application. DO NOT compose the answers to your essay questions while you are filling out the online application.
  5. Some data in the online application is pulled from campus databases. You will notice that these fields are not editable. Address change information must be submitted through regular procedures established by the campus registrar. Please complete these changes before June 1, and that information will be reflected in the application used for scholarship selection.
  6. All information regarding GPA and academic hours will be updated from campus records as of the end of the spring 2007 semester. If a change of major within the College of ACES has already been approved effective for the start of the summer 2007 or fall 2007 semester, that also will be updated. That change of major may well make you eligible for a different set of scholarships than what you originally saw. All of this updating will occur before scholarship evaluations and selections are made.
The application process is currently closed.

Scholarships

A number of scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of ACES are made available through the generous support of alumni and friends of the College. Approximately $1,100,000 in merit-based awards are being awarded in the 2007-2008 academic year in the College. Currently enrolled and newly admitted ACES students will find helpful scholarship information in the five sections noted below.

Jonathan Baldwin Turner (JBT) Scholarships

The Jonathan Baldwin Turner (JBT) Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit to students prior to their freshman year. Awards will be made throughout the summer and fall 2008 semester. Recipients are selected on the basis of specific criteria and academic merit. Scholarship recipients in most recent years have had a grade-point average above 3.0. (For some scholarships on the listing, students must also have applied for and received eligibility for, need-based aid from: Office of Student Financial Aid, 620 E. John Street, Champaign, IL 61820, phone: 217/333-0100 http://www.odos.uiuc.edu/osfa/)

In completing the scholarship application, the student answers a variety of demographic questions and 3-4 essay questions at the end of the form. Once the student submits the information, a listing of those scholarships for which the student appears to meet the criteria will be identified. The student can also ask to review a description of all the scholarships in the ACES Scholarship Database, and then ask to be considered for one or more from the listing by making a statement as to why the student believes he/she meets the stated criteria.
